Android constantly stopping

Hi All,

I have recently set up a network via tailscale so that I can access my NAS remotely. Works like a dream on my pc and partner’s iPhone but the Android app constantly stops connection every 10-20 minutes.

I have tried configuring battery optimisation and power saving settings so it won’t stop apps. Is there something else i can do?

Yes, I’ve been having the same issue on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10. Windows and NAS apps work fine and appear to keep connection, but recently the Android drops the VPN around the 10 minute mark for me.

Also been through battery optimisation for Tailscale - set to unrestricted, disabled the main power saving mode. It’s so frustrating.

I would add that I have only noticed this as an issue over the last few weeks. It definitely wasn’t an issue when I started with Tailscale a few months ago.

edit: I want to add that I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Android app, with no change to the issue.

New beta version released for Google Connectivity Services that seems to fix alot of VPN issues

Hey mate, just want to let you know that I’ve fixed this issue since posting here. In my phone settings I went to personal DNS, set Tailscale as the always on vpn. That’s it… basically no problems now, only took me two days to find that out!

This is really helpful, thank you. It certainly works around the issue of the drop outs.

I also use Sufshark so wonder if there’s any other way to configure Tailscale? It feels a bit convoluted to keep changing this setting to switch between VPNs. Let’s hope it’s something that can be fixed in a future update!

Thanks again.

Where is the Google Connectivity Services listed? I searched on the Play Store for this application and couldn’t see it listed.

No worries! I am actually in the same boat as I use SurfShark as well. Let me know if you find out another way.

“This app is only available to Google Fi and Pixel/Nexus users”

didn’t read this part initially but if you do happen to have a pixel you can use this app to enroll into beta
